Promoting Cross-Cultural Collaboration

Students collaborate to monitor rain harvesting system

Rotary Hands Across Waters aims to utilize principles of water conservation within schools as a platform for promoting social interaction between various ethnic and religious communities in Israel.

Efforts to construct rainwater harvesting systems and implement environmental education thus far have catalyzed cross-cultural exchange amongst the schools and have led to complementary sustainability projects and an adoption of a culture of conservation.

Students engage in hands on lessons during a field trip

Rotary Hands Across Waters aims to replicate this pilot effort across Israel with the goal of building cross-cultural ties. The students’ shared experience of water and environmental stewardship would serve to break down communication barriers and mistrust amongst the disparate youth, eventually leading to peaceful cooperation.

The program would establish a network of up to twenty schools throughout Israel with students from varying cultures, beliefs, and backgrounds.
